Hi,

First of all thanks for opening the forum! And thank you for AE mobile, I love it!

I have LG G Pad 8.3, Android 4.4
Presonus 18VSL
recording to the external SD (some fast Kingston card).

Usually it works flawlessly, but I would like to have an ability to record long live concerts (2-3 hours). AE splits the WAV files into 1GB each. I noticed, there is time gap between separate files of one long recording, so a few samples (or even seconds) seem to be lost. AE doesn't very careful with creation new files or it's my device fault?
Could we have an option not to split large files? It's quite often to have the exFAT system on SD cards, so why we need to split files onto 1gb? Is there any solution?

Having option to record losless audio like USB Audio recorder pro also would be very nice and useful feature in this case! I often use USB recorder but it doesn't record several mono tracks which I need (or I'm wrong?), only stereo files in multi-track mode.

Thank you for your great job! Keep going!
All the best
For this type of project, I would have a hardware device, or even portable hardware field recording device to capture a 2-3 hour recording; as you may (almost guaranteed) have a hiccup that may result in losing your entire effort....

Outsource your recording, and bring it into AE later. That's what I would do (and may do soon myself)

Thank you for your answer!
I have many years of recording practice (well, I'm a professional musician, not a sound engineer). I'm not making money with this, usually I do recordings as volunteer for myself or my friends :)
All my recordings for last 5 years were made with laptop. And I have to say, that with tablet and AE which I use for half a year, I never have any glitch during recording. For me, tablet and AE with Presonus work really better that my unpredictable Windows laptop (even tuned for audio, disabled any WIFI, LAN and so on) with the same gear (I use REAPER). Except the lost samples between splitted long clips. There is only one problem for me.

Could you recommend some device (hardware or field recorder) to capture 4-6 channels? Or it's better to change my laptop for the same price, because I think a lot of problems are going from hardware configuration with 2 graphic cards.

Thank you again, have a nice day!
That is a really good question, because I want something like that too..... I would even buy two of them, just to be able to do a field recording project on the fly, and eventually (when I get geared up for it) to be able to being such a project right into something like AE here, and just run the mix all on mobile gear.

Any device that can multi-track record at 16/44.1 is more than sufficient for me to work with..... I'll report back on this thread when I find something that may work for you.

Is your Presonus feature a tube-pre? If so, have you switched out the stock chinese tube(s) for Russian ones? I strongly prefer and recommend Russian JJ 12Ax7 (Au7's do well also for vocals) the dynamic response and smoothness of gain, to my ears, sound fantastic. I had a 3-gain stage pre I built using a pair of JJ Ax7 and one Au7 for a hammond organ clone and leslie 2101 (I rebuilt this one) I used to gig with, and the resulting tone was just stunning.

That sounds like a bug. We'll test it with a sine wave. The app must split files because there is a 2GB limit.
I am not sure what you mean by 'having option to record lossless audio'. AEM always records lossless in the appropriate WAV format matching the resolution of the (USB) audio stream.

Thank you for the answer!

Files are splitted by 1 GB, not 2 GB. 2Gb are way much better.
Lossless audio means FLAC, WavPach etc.
If I record several tracks mono 24 bit FLAC or WavPack to non-splitted 2 GB file - we have about 8+hours of nonstop recording. That's quite enough for any concert :) 1GB files= ~4 hours of FLAC or WavPack, also great.
Mono 24 bit 48kHz WAV 1 GB is about 2 hour only.

To clarify.
I compared the files recorded in AE with files recorded by ZOOM (the same performance of course) - that's why I have noticed the lost samples. I have the same problem with my notebook, sometimes there are a few glitches during recording, but they appear just by chance, with no visible reasons.
With AE and LG my recordings are free of any glitches at all. I have lost samples only in case when AE splits the files. Otherwise AE is solid stable.
In principle, for the bug it doesn't matter, but we chose 1GB as safety. Have you verified that the glitch is exactly at the 1GB split?

Perhaps we can make an option to record in flac as well, but it takes more cpu time for the real-time encoding which may have a negative impact on battery use and instrument playback performance.

Yes, I have.
As for FLAC - I didn't notice any changes in battery life comparing WAV and FLAC recording in Recorder Pro, the screen eats much more then CPU in this case. On my LG pad (with quite ordinary battery, nothing special) I may record for 24 hours in FLAC (2 stereo tracks simultaneously), while the screen is off :)
It's clear that AE is not only recording software, it's DAW.
But I think to have an option for FLAC recording (in case when recording is more important, then ability to play an instrument) for example would be nice.
Or the option to record mono tracks (each channel individually) for Recorder Pro.

Thank you!
Is there a RAM allocation limit for all loaded audio content in the AEM? Some devices do it, some apps do it..... Loading up several 16/44.1 audio tracks for even a 4 minute song are going to add up quick, depending on how it was recorded, arranged, and loaded up into it. I'll try some experiments on my end on a few different bits of gear I have here, and see what happens
