audio recording Steinberg UR22mkII and "glitch"
#1
Hello all,

First of all i wanted to thank you for this great application and ancourage you in your work !

I've purchased the application with usb audio and midi features.

nvidia shield operating system:
android 6 Marshmallow

Here the list of the hardware:
-nvidia shield tegra K1 (4 CPU 2,2Ghz, 2 Go memory) new generation: https://shield.nvidia.fr/tablet/k1
-Samsung micro SD class 10 64 Go: https://www.amazon.fr/Samsung-M%C3%A9moi...B00J2BSW9O
-Steinberg UR22 mkII usb audio interface, connected to additional alimentation (+5v): http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/aud...2mkii.html
-USB midi keyboard Akai LPK25: http://www.akaipro.com/product/lpk25
-I use your eXtream drivers
-one usb OTG cable

All works great, midi recording and audio recording

But..because there is always a "but"...

When i listen to the project (actually 4 midi tracks, 4 recording audio  tracks) i encounter some "glitch" (i'm french hard to explain) like "interferences" that appears periodically, regular intervals. same during recording.

This "interferences" aren't recording , the waves are clean.

When i shut down steinberg audio sound card and i listen the project with the default audio interface (the nvidia shield audio interface), i haven't these interferences

I've updated the steinberg usb interface with the last firmware: http://www.steinberg.net/en/support/down...2mkii.html

As we can see on this link:
http://download.steinberg.net/downloads_...eNotes.pdf

There is a windows driver update (v1.9.8)

With this bug correction:
V1.9.6 to V1.9.8
- Solved some minor problems.
- Solved the following problems:
  • ・Audio loss may occur depending on the user environment.
  • ・Audio may distort after some period of time.
This last point (bold) is exactly the problem i encounter on the android device when i listen to the project with the UR22 mkII sound card

here the link to the driver download page (v1.9.8):
http://www.steinberg.net/en/support/down...river.html

I did test on fruityloops and cubase on my computer and i haven't any trouble.
The sound card is new (purchased friday 21/05/2016)

thanks in advance for you advices

One thing you can do is increase the USB buffer size in the app's preferences. Playback on multichannel devices has a higher risk of producing glitches unfortunately. Rooting can help as well in combination with the root tweak option.

thanks a lot for your fast answer !

I've tried differents value and it doesn't seem to solve the problem....

With the nvidia shield audio interface, there isn't a glitch. So i make recording with the steinberg usb audio sound card and i do arrangements without.

it seems that the problem is between the driver and the sound card

Hello all !

I've rooted my nvidia shield K1 marshmallow following this (excellent) tutorial:
http://nvidiashieldzone.com/shield-table...hmallow-2/

I've authorized AEM in SuperSU for root access

I've activated the "tweak" option for rooted system and the "noise" is still here...

it appear at 30scds and after, each 45 scds...

i think that the steinberg UR22 mkII USB audio interface isn't really optimized with AEM.

I've tried differents settings but always the same problem...

Anyway, without the USB sound card (with the nvidia shield standard audio output), i haven't any "noise interference"...it should be the opposite
Thanks a lot for your reply

I think we solved it (at least for the UR12). Please try version 4.2.2.

Hello !
big thanks for your answer !
I will try it tonight after working day and i will come back here for return about my test ;-)

Anyway my shield isn't anymore rooted, it didn't solved any troubles so restored it from stock, is it a problem or your patch works without rooted system ?

In the last update of the nvidia shield tablet K1 (version 1.3) it seems that they provide a big update for audio performances:
https://shield.nvidia.com/support/shield...se-notes/1

"This update for SHIELD Tablet K1 contains important system enhancements & bug fixes, including:

SHIELD Tablet K1 now meets Android 6.0 Professional Audio requirements, including:
Low Latency Audio (<20ms continuous round trip)
USB Host & Peripheral modes
24-bit@192kHz Stereo & 7.1 HDMI output
MIDI support over USB & Bluetooth LE"

I did update today and i will try tonight

Big thanks For your work, this is juste perfect, no more glitch, all works perfectly.
My tablette isn't rooted anymore and no latency, the Steinberg UR22 has a direct monitoring and works perfectly with your soft !
Bit up !

That's a very good news. I've been considering investing in one of these Steinberg UR series devices to use with AEM, but the reports of glitches were putting me off. Now I can try my luck.

I've tried to record 6 audio tracks (24bits, 48KHz), put 2 soundfount's tracks, put effects (delay, reverb, compressor, flanger) to be rude with the software and all perfect ! no glitch, no latence !

before your patch, just 2 tracks, 1 soundfount and 1 audio and the were glitch ;-)

Really big thanks !
