Samsung Galaxy Note8 running Oreo

I swore it was working before and after upgrading to Oreo, but I'm having problems no matter what dac i use on my Samsung Note8.  Works fine on another android device:

Sound Blaster E5
Schiit BiFrost Uber
Sony SBS HME1


Is there something I'm doing incorrectly?
