DAC not detected by UAPP on Xiaomi Redmi Pad
#1
Question
Hi,

my Xiaomi Redmi Pad does not detect an external SMSL DAC attached via USB. Other devices such as USB sticks do work with the tablet.
I'm aware that Huawei/Unisoc devices may cause issues, but the Redmi Pad was launched in 2022, uses a Mediatek Helio G99 SOC and runs Android 13. With a Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2 as well as a Huawei MediaPad M5 lite UAPP does detect the external DAC - although the Huawei tablet doesn't recognize the DAC's name.
Is this a known issue or could there be a workaround? I was under the impression that newer android devices shouldn't have any issues with external DACs.

Thanks!

It's a misconception that apps would detect USB devices. Android (or Linux first for that matter) detects USB devices. Apps can only ask Android which USB devices it found, so if your device does not detect the DAC, then the problem is in the device itself and you need to contact Xiaomi.

Thanks, so this is not a known issue? Then it should be added to the list of incompatible devices.

Due to the quote below, I assumed a Xiaomi pad with a Mediatek chipset should be fine. Hence, others looking for this functionality should be warned.

It is not a known issue with this device and it is strange. The new Redmi Pad SE with the Android 14 update does have a problem with the device disconnecting directly after giving permission, but that sounds like a different issue. We cannot put devices on the incompatible list until more users report it for the same device.
