TIDAL self-skipping tracks
#1
TIDAL within UAPP has started skipping/advancing to the next track midway through tracks. In some cases, it’s skipping within the first 30 seconds. It’s totally random annd incredibly jarring.

The issue does not occur when I’m playing local files.

The issue does not occur in the native TIDAL app or other music apps.

Has anyone else seen this before? Any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks.

30 seconds means that your subscription has expired or it's a trial account. Then TIDAL will only stream for 30 seconds. What you can do is select 'Switch acccounts' from the top-right and make sure you enter the credentials for a valid subscription.

The skip times all seem random. I just tried capturing a couple. One occurred at 1:05 and another at 0:41. Others the song is 75% through.

I used the switch account feature but the issue remained.

I cleared data from the app and the issue happened again.

I uninstalled the app and installed again and the issue happened again.

It’s the same paid account that I sign in to the native app on the same device and the issue doesn’t occur.

Here is an example of it happening. It’s like a ghost or someone with a remote control is forwarding my songs:

Another example. Sorry for the music taste:

I think this issue only began after I had used the Trial version of UAPP to conduct testing to see if the audio quality issue was version-specific.

Is there anything UAPP (Trial version) could have written outside of the app's own sandbox, e.g. in my Music folder that could affect a fresh install of the normal app? I don't want to have to wipe my whole device to try and get normality back.

This is insane. I literally can't believe TIDAL keeps self-skipping with no input from me.

I've had another realization... another change that may have happened about the same time is that I've activated an app called "Ipsos MediaCell+" which allows Ipsos market research firm to monitor my media consumption. They do this in quite rudimentary ways, including keeping the mic constantly open. I am paid, a small amount, to allow them to intrude and analyze what media I am consuming. They are a big, trusted company. They're just running a program to try and capture real life media consumption.

Is there some kind of additional anti-piracy code in UAPP or the TIDAL integration that could be reacting to the mic actively listening? It's ironic that is doesn't stop the native TIDAL app from playing back normally, if there is.

I can't take the Ipsos app off without arranging a new activation code with them.

Update: I remember the Ipsos app has a button that allows me to suspend their "decode" process to listen to audio. I was really hopeful that using this would help. I could see that the mic turned off because the OS display a green circle when it's on. Sadly, UAPP TIDAL still self-skipped, despite teasing me with nearly a full song.

They say that different media vendors are transmitting inaudible codes that ID them to Ipsos's market research technology.

I see you are using VPN. Usually that's the culprit.

I’ve only had time to try it once but it did appear to playback normally when I disconnected the VPN.

It’s the Ipsos thing which connects the VPN. It had managed to reconnect by the end of my listening session. I’ll look into moving it to another phone.

Why does this happen in UAPP but not in the native app?
