Had some trouble getting an album artist to show up
#1
So I kind of took the shotgun approach to fixing this one... so I'm not really sure what the answer was, but I was having a hell of a time getting "John Moreland" to show up under album artists.  I can confirm that the ALBUM ARTIST tag was populated, but it just would not show up.  I tried copying that value to ALBUMARTIST and it still would not show up.  Finally, I disabled the android db tags, nuked the database and rescanned with both tags populated, and finally it showed up!

I also took all the music on my SD card and populated both the ALBUM ARTIST and ALBUMARTIST tags, and there are other album artists that were missing that are now showing up.

My question, mainly, is whether UAPP uses the ALBUM ARTIST or ALBUMARTIST tag and whether the issue was actually letting the android db getting involved at all.  Things do seem to work better when UAPP does its own thing, totally independent of the android db.  I will likely leave it this way.

But, as I go forward and add more music to the SD card, am I going to have to mess with these tags in order to get them to show up properly?  I use LMS as my main music player / database and everything is properly tagged in a way that is supported there, so I would hate to have to edit tags every time I want to load music into my DAP.

What's strange is that if I were to open the meta data on an individual track within the album that would not show up properly under album artists (only one album for this artist), it did list the Album Artist within that pop up window.

Any idea what was going on here? Thanks!

Yes, it's a bit of a complicated answer, but yes, if speed is not an issue, then indeed you should disable the 'Quick scan usng Android media database'. The app will fill in the album artist equal to the artist if it's missing, but it won't change the actual file, this is just for the app's internal database, otherwise things wouldn't work.
I see 'Album artist' as tag if I look in tag editors, but every file format may have their own naming scheme.

Gotchya, that settles it then.  Android db shall remain turned off.  It really isn't what I would describe as "slow" without it enabled.  Kind of about the speed I would expect scanning my SD card to be.  Seems to eliminate quite a bit of headache as well.

Thanks.
