Network Library
#1
While it's pretty great that UAPP can browse and play files from network shares (smb without UPNP server), it would be even better if UAPP could scan a network share and present it in a similar way to a local library, rather than just offering folder-based playback.

However, if such a thing were to be added, I would like it to be a separate library (similar to browsing qobuz favorites), rather than mixing them all in with albums scanned from the local storage.

I wouldn't want to see the folder based playback go away though, both have their place.

The feature pack allows you to add folders from a UPnP server to the Library. SMB would be immensely slow to populate the Library with.

It does indeed, but it is also immensely slow adding any sizable folder from UPNP.  No exaggeration, it seems like it would take an entire day (if not, at least quite a few hours) to import my entire library via UPNP.  Is there any possibility of somehow caching a UPNP server in a faster way?  The main benefits I'd be hoping for would be the ability to search, change sorting, and not be dumped back to the top of a list when moving up / back a level.  Symfonium seems to do such a thing (or at least import a Plex / Jellyfin library very quickly), but that app lacks DSD support and is unlikely to gain it.

Currently I'm using Plexamp to stream music from my server and UAPP for local playback and DSD playback (Plexamp also doesn't support DSD at all... doesn't even a transcode to PCM).  It would be very nice to be able to do everything within UAPP to simplify things and get the best quality sound.

I wish I had a solution to offer, but all I have is feedback Sad

Perhaps a basic index that limits the metadata looked at, then a deeper scan upon opening the folder / library. A tradeoff where album artwork, etc loads slower that gains a faster scan of remote libraries would be a compromise id happily accept.

Opening a file from a network source is just slow. UPnP is even the fastest compared to SMB etc. Once opened, reading a bit more or less meta data does not really matter for speed.

Of course it would be possible to limit the meta data to what the UPnP server provides and that would be way faster, but also less accurate and might not even find any meta data in DSD files.

Would it be viable to limit the metadata like that, and then properly scan upon navigating to the album or artist?
